Umbwe Route

Umbwe Route has a bad reputation for being the shortest and steepest route on Umbwe. Climbing through this route is truly challenging, especially for first-time climbers. Generally, for the first-time climber, Lemosho or Norther-circuit route is ideal.

Umbwe Route

Umbwe route can be only recommended to experienced climbers and those who want to challenge their ability on climbing difficult terrains. The reason why we call it the steepest, it offers poor acclimatisation, which is this route is used by a tiny percentage of hikers.

Talking about how scenic beauty, Umbwe is not as scenic as Lemosho or Machame Route. Still, if you climb through this route, you can get some stunning views of the rainforest, moorland and high-altitude deserts.

Umbwe is also the least crowded route on Umbwe. This is a big advantage for those who want a peaceful climbing experience. Talking about the weather conditions, the Umbwe route experiences a varied climate pattern. the lower section of the Umbwe route has a wet and humid climate, as it passes through a rainforest. As you start to ascend, you will see a transition in the weather pattern, the temperature starts falling, and on the upper level of this route, you will see the alpine desert.

Despite knowing the steepness of the Umbwe route, if you still want to climb Umbwe, then plan your climb in the dry season from January to mid-March and June to October.

Climbing through the Umbwe route is no doubt challenging and yet rewarding too. The remote atmosphere coupled with diverse landscapes makes the Umbwe route still an ideal choice for Umbwe Climbing. But it’s only for experienced climbers!
