Background and Inspiration

Consea Dissa, known as “the dreamer,” inspired a groundbreaking achievement in 2016 when he and his team in Tanzania successfully delivered a hot pizza to Mount Kilimanjaro. This remarkable feat set a world record for the highest pizza delivery on Earth. “Wouldn’t it be great to eat BBQ at 19,341 feet?” We’ve since learned that, yes, that’s a crazy notion, but also an incredible one! The project is fueled by a love for adventure and good food, alongside a desire to raise awareness and funds for local communities at the base of Kilimanjaro. Spoiler alert: there will be no shortage of delicious grilled meats and laughter along the way!

Consea Dissa is a seasoned professional mountain guide and the former owner of Summit Trails Adventure, now operating as Good Earth Expedition. He led a team of expert guides in collaboration with Pizza Hut employees during the final stage of their record-breaking ascent. Consea played a pivotal role in the successful planning and execution of the mission, which included delivering a hot pizza to an altitude of 19,343 feet.

He was tasked with leading and guiding the delivery team, including Pizza Hut Africa’s General Manager, Randall Blackford, and other team members, to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. The expedition involved transporting the pizza, maintained at an optimal temperature in a specially designed backpack, up the mountain.

Project Timeline

The Kilimanjaro Project 2026 is a multi-stage endeavor. It kicks off with planning in early 2024, followed by recruitment of both climbers and chefs, and pre-trek training. By mid-2025, we’ll finalize logistics, secure permits, and begin honing our BBQ techniques (and maybe some yoga stretches). Objectives of the BBQ Adventure

Our mission (should we choose to accept it) goes beyond just reaching the summit with a grill in hand. The Kilimanjaro BBQ Adventure aims to weave together camaraderie, culture, and charity in one epic package-Preserving the lives of children affected by malaria in Tanzania.

Promoting Team Building

Let’s face it: nothing brings people together quite like the smell of barbecue wafting through the air. This adventure is designed to foster teamwork, as participants will tackle the climb together, share responsibilities, and bond over their shared love for grilled goodness. Expect plenty of bonding exercises, from setting up camp to preparing meals all while battling the mountain’s temperamental weather—and maybe even a few marshmallow-toasting competitions.

Fundraising Goals

Funding is crucial for this ambitious project! We aim to raise significant funds to support local initiatives surrounding Kilimanjaro, including education and environmental conservation efforts. The BBQ itself will serve as a fundraiser, with tickets going to support these causes. So, every mouthful of deliciously charred meat will not only fuel your adventures but also help bolster dreams back at base camp.

Planning and Preparation

The road to climbing Kilimanjaro isn’t just about the ascent—it’s about meticulous planning and preparation to guarantee a smooth experience (with less chance of your BBQ getting rained on).but don’t worry – we have great tents.

Selecting the Right Team

Diversity in skills and personalities is key! Our team will consist of seasoned climbers, BBQ enthusiasts, and individuals who can tell a great story. We’re looking for adaptability, passion, and a good sense of humor (you’ll need it when the weather turns). As we sift through applications, we’ll be asking the important questions: “Can you grill under pressure?” and “How do you feel about hiking with someone who insists on serenading the group?”

Permits and Regulations

Securing permits for climbing Kilimanjaro is no walk in the park (well, sort of—it’s more of a hike). The regulations are strict, and we’ll need to navigate through the maze of paperwork while ensuring we adhere to environmental guidelines. Not only will we be working with authorities, but we’ll also aim to be respectful of local tribes and their customs—who knows, they might even have some BBQ secrets to share!

The Route and Challenges

Climbing Kilimanjaro is no picnic, even if our end goal is to throw a BBQ bash at the summit. Here’s how we plan to tackle the famous mountain.

Itinerary Overview

The journey will take us through diverse landscapes—from lush rainforests to rocky terrains. We’ll allow for ample acclimatization while enjoying scenic vistas and preparing for our culinary mission. The highlight? A well-deserved BBQ morning at Uhuru Peak, where we’ll toss goat into the sky, celebrating our hard-won victory—just watch out for any rogue birds!

Potential Obstacles

Let’s be real: climbing a mountain comes with its fair share of challenges. Altitude sickness, unpredictable weather, and the occasional rogue goat are just a few hurdles we might face. But fear not! With the right team spirit, a truckload of determination, and perhaps a few good old-fashioned pep talks (and of bbq), we’ll rise to every occasion—literally!

Equipment and Supplies Needed

Essential Gear for Climbing

To conquer Kilimanjaro and make it to the summit without looking like you just rolled out of a tent, you’ll need some essential gear. Think sturdy hiking boots, breathable clothing (because who wants to hike in soggy socks?), layers for unpredictable weather, a good backpack to carry your essentials, trekking poles for that extra oomph, and a reliable sleeping bag that feels like a cozy cloud. Don’t forget a headlamp for nighttime bathroom trips – trust us on this one! We have a full equipment packing list for you.

BBQ Menu and Ingredients

We are excited to announce our first inaugural barbecue event, scheduled for the second day of our hike along the Lemosho route, at the Shira Plateau, situated at an elevation of 12,000 feet. We have commissioned a custom, locally crafted gas grill, designed to be lightweight for easy transport by our porters. This grill adheres to the regulations prohibiting open fires on Mount Kilimanjaro, and we are in the process of obtaining a special permit for this unique occasion, with safety as our utmost priority. The second barbecue is scheduled to occur at the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, 19,343 feet above sea level, between 7:30 AM and 8:30 AM on the sixth day of our trek. This unique event offers a protein-rich breakfast at the pinnacle of Africa, following several days of hiking. It serves as a distinctive celebration while raising funds for mosquito nets to benefit the children of Tanzania. Our menu will feature a selection of marinated steak, chicken, and South African Braai sausages, alongside vegan and vegetarian options. These dishes will be enhanced with spices sourced from Tanzania and Zanzibar, ensuring a rich and flavorful experience. To complement the barbecue, we will offer a variety of freshly prepared sauces, incorporating ingredients such as garlic, ginger, lemon juice, turmeric, masala, and ground cumin. A surprise dessert will also be served to conclude the meal.

Community Involvement and Support

Local Partnerships

To make the Kilimanjaro Project 2026 BBQ Adventure a smash hit, we’re teaming up with local businesses and organizations. These partnerships will help boost the local economy while ensuring we respect and celebrate the culture of the area. Local guides can provide invaluable insight, delicious traditional foods can spice up our BBQ menu, and nearby artisans might offer unique souvenirs to bring home. When in Africa, do as the Tanzanians do!

Volunteer Opportunities

Are you ready to put your heart (and stomach) into this? We’re on the lookout for enthusiastic volunteers to help with everything from setting up the BBQ to engaging with the community. Whether you’re a seasoned climber, a BBQ aficionado, or just someone who wants to pitch in and make a difference, we’d love your help! Not only will you gain priceless experience, but you’ll also forge new friendships and create unforgettable memories. Plus, you might get some extra grilled goodies in return!

Safety Measures and Guidelines

Health and Safety Protocols

Your safety is our top priority, so let’s keep it simple. Before embarking on this epic adventure, make sure to get a health check-up and consult with a doctor about altitude sickness. Pack a first-aid kit with essentials like band-aids, antiseptic wipes, and maybe some snacks for morale. We’ll also have trained guides on hand to ensure everyone follows the health protocols, including hydration reminders because no one likes a dehydrated adventurer, right?

Emergency Preparedness

In the spirit of ‘better safe than sorry,’ we’ll have a solid emergency plan in place. This means certified guides familiar with the terrain, communication devices that work in the wild, and evacuation routes planned out like a well-coordinated dance. We’ll also designate a meetup point should anyone wander off (and let’s be real, it happens). Remember, we want everyone to enjoy the journey and come back with stories—not horror tales!

Anticipated Outcomes and Impact

Environmental Sustainability

The Kilimanjaro Project 2026 isn’t just about glorious BBQs; we’re committed to leaving a positive trail behind. We’ll implement eco-friendly practices like waste segregation, minimizing plastic use, and planting trees along the way. Our hope is to raise awareness about the environment while enjoying nature’s beauty. After all, if you don’t take care of it, who will? Plus, future BBQ lovers deserve to enjoy this paradise too!

Community Benefits and Legacy

By bringing people together for this unique adventure, we aim to create lasting benefits for the local community. The funds raised will support local initiatives, enhance educational opportunities, and empower small businesses. Our primary goal, however, is to save the lives of young children suffering from malaria by providing mosquito nets to affected rural areas in Tanzania. But it doesn’t stop there! The stories, friendships, and memories forged through this project will create a legacy that inspires future adventures and fosters a sense of connection across cultures. So let’s make some noise and sizzle our way into history! As the Kilimanjaro Project 2026 approaches, the excitement and anticipation continue to build among participants and supporters alike. This adventure not only represents a personal challenge for those involved but also serves as a testament to the power of community and collaboration. By combining the thrill of climbing with the joy of sharing a meal, this project aims to create lasting memories while making a positive impact on the local environment and communities. Together, the participants will embark on a journey that goes beyond the summit, fostering connections and inspiring future endeavors.
