Morocco Travel FAQs

Citizens from most countries including the US, UK, Canada, Australia, and the EU do not require a visa for stays of up to 90 days. However, it’s always best to check the latest visa requirements with your embassy before travelling.

Morocco is generally a safe country for travellers, with a low crime rate. However, as with any destination, it’s important to take precautions to stay safe. Avoid walking alone at night in unlit areas, keep an eye on your belongings, and be aware of scams targeting tourists.

The official languages of Morocco are Arabic and Berber. French is also widely spoken, especially in tourist areas, and many Moroccans also speak English, Spanish, or other European languages.

Morocco is a Muslim country, and it’s important to dress conservatively, especially when visiting mosques or other religious sites. Women should cover their shoulders, arms, and legs, while men should avoid wearing shorts. Loose-fitting, lightweight clothing is recommended, especially in the summer months.

Morocco is home to a large number of cultural and natural attractions, including the colourful souks of Marrakech, the stunning blue city of Chefchaouen, the ancient Roman ruins of Volubilis, and the picturesque coastal town of Essaouira.

The best time to visit Morocco is during the spring (March to May) and fall (September to November) when the temperatures are mild and the crowds are smaller. Summers can be extremely hot, especially in the desert regions, while winters can be chilly in the mountainous areas.

The official currency in Morocco is the Moroccan dirham (MAD). You can exchange currency at banks and exchange offices, and ATMs are widely available in major cities.

Moroccan cuisine is famous for its flavourful spices and fresh ingredients and typically includes dishes like tagine (slow-cooked stews), couscous, and harissa (a hearty soup). Vegetarians and vegans will also find plenty of options, with many traditional Moroccan dishes featuring vegetables, legumes, and grains.

Morocco has a good network of buses and trains, making it easy to travel between cities. Taxis and private drivers are also available, although it’s important to agree on the fare in advance. In cities like Marrakech and Fez, walking is often the best way to explore the narrow streets of the medina.
